Newly Structured General Carpentry Curriculum from NCCER is Now Available
The sixth edition of the National Center for Construction Education and Research’s (NCCER) General Carpentry curriculum is now available as the first level leading to a two-pronged course path. In response to customer usage and market demand, the new program will include career paths for carpentry for building construction and form carpentry as well as interim credentials for each.
Breaking from the traditional four-level trainee guide, the new model has three trainee guides consisting of Core, General Carpentry and either Carpentry for Building Construction or Form Carpentry, with the latter slated for release in 2023. Together, the three trainee guides may be used to create a full, four-year apprenticeship program.
As one of NCCER’s top five craft training programs, we developed the curriculum with the understanding that carpentry is a fundamental craft in construction. The updated Carpentry curriculum includes improved digital education technologies and hybrid learning. With this revision, the focus is on providing a seamless experience for the trainees, as well as a range of user-friendly digital tools and videos through the NCCERconnect platform to enhance learning.
To learn more about these updates, join the upcoming Carpentry webinar with NCCER Project Manager Dario VanHorne, NCCER Technical Writer Gary Ferguson and Subject Matter Expert Buddy Showalter of the International Code Council. The webinar will be held on Thursday, July 21 at 2 p.m. EST.
NCCER develops and distributes its curricula in partnership with the world’s leading learning company, Pearson, and ensures that it complies with the Department of Labor’s Office of Apprenticeship requirements for time-based training. Individuals who successfully complete these training programs through an NCCER Accredited Training Sponsor will earn industry-recognized credentials through the NCCER Registry System.
